Lagos APC Crisis:Wike Relieved Ambode.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has advised his Lagos State counterpart to resist godfathers. He claimed this was because development is negated by godfatherism.

Wike said this on a show recorded at the Port Harcourt Government House on Thursday.

When asked for his comments about the political rift between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his godfather, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wike advised Ambode to resist his godfather.

He said: “If it is correct that the godfather is against Ambode , I will tell him (Ambode) to resist it. I will tell him to promote the interest of his state. Godfatherism is not good. It negates development.”

In the same interview, Wike accused the immediate past Governor of Rivers, Chibuike Amaechi, of selling assets belonging to the state to his business partner, and then turned around to anoint the same person to contest for the governorship position.

“No more godfather politics in Rivers State. We are not in Lagos State. Rivers State will not accept godfatherism. My concern is to do well for Rivers State,” he said.

“For over three years that we have managed Rivers State, nobody of good conscience will say that we have not done well. We are not threatened because in Rivers State, PDP is a dominant party.”

Wike had earlier said the members of the PDP in the state will come together to decide on their choice among the many presidential aspirants for the 2019 elections. He said no single individual could force the hand of the Rivers PDP delegates but leaders of the party will meet at the state level and decide as a team on their choice.

He also denied assigning campaign coordinator to any of the presidential aspirants from the north, who he said had gone to other governors and have been given campaign coordinators.

He said he had been visited by several presidential aspirants who requested he nominate a liaison in support of their candidature, but he declined.

Wike mentioned former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor AminuTambuwal of Sokoto State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa among those who have visited him.
